‘Good and valuable consideration’ by Lee Child & Joseph Finder

Considering the length of the story (about 25 pages), I debated whether it was worth commenting on, but as it forms part of an International Thriller Writers (ITW) anthology series and the standalone short costs £1.99 in the UK; I figured it’s worth doing.

Now, I won’t bother with a full synopsis but in brief both Jack Reacher and Nick Heller end up in a Boston bar watching a baseball game, and sat between them is a large, nervous man with a problem to be solved.

Overall, this ‘FaceOff’ falls short of what the anthology name or theme suggests, but we find value and enjoyment in the solid, functional short story that brings together our two heroes and allows us to witness their almost playful interaction.

Was it a missed opportunity? Perhaps, but I’m sure contractual restrictions would have put a stop to several potential storylines. That leaves one last question. Is it worth the money? Considering what else you can get for the price, probably not. This is one for s series completionist only.
